Description

The Study in Canada Scholarships give short-term exchange opportunities for students from post-secondary schools in new qualified countries/territories to study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

The full-degree-based Study in Canada Scholarships program, which was trialed in 2020, has been replaced by this student exchange program. The next competition will give at least 50 scholarships, increasing each year.

Canada Scholarships Eligibility

Canada Scholarships Candidates must be:

  • citizens of one of the following eligible countries/territories:
    Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan,  Turkey, Ukraine,  Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia,  Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda
  • enrolled as a full-time student at post-secondary institution in an eligible country/territory and paying tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.

Candidates are not eligible if they:

  • hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency;
  • are already enrolled in a degree, diploma or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution; and
  • are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada;

Canadian post-secondary institution eligibility

The Canadian post-secondary institution must:
  • be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI);
  • Have a legitimate student exchange arrangement in place with the candidate’s home university, allowing scholarship recipients to avoid paying tuition. Inform  the candidate also their home institution of any necessary expenses that cannot be waived under extraordinary circumstances before applying for a scholarship on their behalf.; and
  • A letter produced by the Canadian university’s international office or equivalent will be accepted for college and undergraduate research applications with no agreement. And advise both the candidate and their home institution of any necessary expenses that, in extreme situations, cannot be waived.

Scholarship value and duration

The value of a Canada Scholarships varies based on the length and degree of study:
  • For a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research, CAD 10,000 is available for college, undergraduate, or graduate students (Master’s and Ph.D.).
  • Graduate students (Master’s and PhD) receive CAD 12,700 for a period of five to six months of study or research.

Expenses Eligibility

The value of a scholarship varies based on the length and degree of study:
  • visa or study/work permit fees;
  • health insurance;
  • airfare for the scholarship recipient only via the most direct and economical route;
  • ground transportation, including a public transportation pass; 
  • living expenses, such as accommodation, utilities and food; and
  • books and supplies required for the recipient’s study or research, excluding computers and other equipment
